News/What's On

Welcome to the first term of Angus Folk for 2010.

Firstly, a very Happy New Year to everyone – we hope there was plenty of singing during the festive season!  The first term of 2010 starts on Tuesday 12th January at 7.30 pm in the small hall at the Glens and Kirriemuir Old Parish Church in Kirriemuir, and will be an ‘Open Evening’ with a Singaround & Film show, all welcome.  This term will run for 9 weeks, ending on 9th March and we’ll have a 5-week break to prepare for (and then recover from!) the chocolate excesses of Easter.  The 2nd term begins on the 13th April.

Amy Lord will again be our main tutor for the term – teaching on the 26th January, the 2nd & 9th February and the 9th March. We have a special guest tutor on Tuesday 16th February all the way from America - Brendan Taaffe. Brendan will focus on traditional American harmony-bluegrass, gospel, shape note, and Appalachian material.  This evening will be 3-hours long with a short interval for refreshments. All our normal Tuesday evening classes run from 7.30 to 9.30pm, irrespective of the tutor.

This terms special events include Angus Folk singing at the Strathmartine Church Guild Burns Evening on the 25th January.  We will also be singing at East & Old Parish Church Guild, Forfar on 3rd March, making it a busy term for Angus Folk.

Our next workshop will be with Ali Burns on Saturday 30th January 2010 in St. Margaret’s Church Hall, Forfar – please see details on the website (including booking form).  For those of you who have not had the enjoyment of attending one of Ali’s workshops before, we would recommend you try it – an experience not to miss!  But please book early as places get taken very quickly.

If you’re not a member of Angus Folk but would like to come along to any of our classes, please just turn up – all classes are open to everyone and you’ll be made very welcome.  We’re always looking for new members (men and women!) so come along and see what we’re all about; your first class is free!

Happy Singing
